Again a different piece i found fascinating on the issue of technology’s, what would you do if i didn’t post this ehh? you would have to look at the initial article, the chances you found it would be slim, so think yourself fortunate that i have shared this excellent article with you.
Scientists functioning at the University West of England (UWE) in Bristol, UK, have worked out one way to recharge a cell phone with Human pee.
The team has been capable of recharge a Samsung smart phone by placing the liquid through a cascade of microbial fuel cells. Using this process, enough power may be produced to send text messages, browse the Internet and also make a quick telephone call.
According to the scientists in charge, the next stage is to completely charge the device with urine…Presumably cleaning their hands directly afterwards.
Dr. Ioannis Ieropoulos has worked for ages with microbial fuel cells; he is considered to be an expert in harnessing energy from extraordinary sources. The potential applications of his work are very interesting from an environmental point of view.
Dr. Ieropoulos said, “We are very excited as this is a world first, no-one has harnessed power from urine to do this so it is an exciting discovery. Using the final waste product as the supply of energy to provide electricity is nearly as eco as it takes.” Eco-friendly tech is, apparently, the great doctor’s main area of interest.
The microbial cells work as the energy converter, they turn the natural substance directly into electricity, via the metabolism of live bacteria. The electrical power is a by-product of a microorganism’s natural life phase, meaning that as they ‘eat’ the pee, they produce energy the energy that powers the phone. Now that is what we call ‘pee as you go’.
Toilet humour aside, the team have engineered a world first, as nothing as large as the phone battery has ever been charged using this method before.
You’ll notice, at the present, no plans to market this technology on a sizable scale, but maybe someday we could be signing a ‘P’ mobile contract, the trick, as they are saying, might be pissistance.
PS – I’m apologetic about this one. The task and its implications are instead amazing. All credit to the UWE team. However, I continuously needed to do one to those ‘And Finally’ type stories and now I finally get to. Please forgive me, one and all.
